It would sound fine with a Fishman Aura or perhaps an EQ, but, as I wrote above, just want to keep it simple. I did not realize that the Gigpro had separate bass and treb controls. Undersaddle pickups have a reputation for being a little quacky or brittle or overly crisp-sounding - the guitars I have with undersaddle pickups installed are usually played through an external Fishman Aura pedal, whose electronic wizardry (an "image" file derived from that guitar make/model being played into a microphone) takes out the quack and maps a more natural microphone-like sound in its place. Anything? If you just need additional EQ, which is understandable since your current setup only has a single tone control, there are more options. The usual process when installing an undersaddle pickup is to make sure your saddle slot and saddle bottom surface are perfectly flat and perpendicular to the side of the saddle and saddle slot respectively. If you simply cut the wires and re install the jack you may notice a light rattle or buzz when playing or shaking the guitar, this is because the jack has parts that can rattle. Seems like an uneven pressure problem. Most folks around here poo-poo undersaddle pickups in favor of either a soundboard transducer or something involving a microphone or polepieces like an electric guitar, or even a combination. The rebuilt guitars they sell are in your price range and offer a much better sounding guitar than any Taylor or Breedlove for the same money. Adding to this, I just found that when I hold the cable connector in the uke, the hum goes away, which could very well point to what you're saying, almost like it's not grounding. After all was said and done, I decided to forget trying to fix my blunder, so I ordered another Fishman Isys+ preamp system. Could make a wonderful guitar perfect for playing out. I have done the Fishman with the little mic, it seems to work fine but is prone to feedback and takes a bit of futzing to find the sweet spot. I have the LR Baggs professionally-dealer fitted in my Lowden's and have had no problems of low levels or noise with Headway or a Gracie pre-amp, or direct into my Fishman Loudbox. Personally I have worked on quite a lot of lower-end guitars equipped with the Sonitone unit and always found it sounding pretty abysmal, bordering on the unusable. That mount looks very similar, perhaps the same, as the Sonicore one. The headstock is beautiful. The main problem with the Sonicore is that the tone knob does very little. A better, 6-10 band EQ might, but, might as well go with an aura, at that point. It's sick the amount of money quality American made acoustics go for these days, but the difference is phenomenal IME. I actually do have plugin type piezo pickups, and I ordered a couple of off brand preamps from a similar web site, but I wanted to keep it simple by using the existing Fishman power/connector unit that plugs right in to the Isys+ preamp. The only issue with an external EQ pedal is that it is one more thing. A cheap, 5 band EQ does not do much to improve the sound of a good acoustic guitar. I downloaded a Isis preamp user guide from fishman's sight, but found nothing that would help. We shall see. A couple guys over on the AGF replaced the Sonitone element and had good results. That "quack" effect you're hearing comes from the undersaddle transducer and the preamp can't really help. . The venue does set up with a music stand that you could use to put one on.
